# Densité de la population: nuage de points

## Description

Depuis le début du XXe siècle, la population de la Suisse a plus que doublé, passant de 3,3 millions en 1900 à 8,2 millions en 2014. A l'heure actuelle, 73,7% de la population vivent dans des zones urbaines, contre moins d'un tiers en milieu rural. Ce taux correspond à celui des conurbations dans les pays européens.
Rapportée à l'ensemble du territoire, la densité de la population se chiffre à 206 personnes par km² (2014). La population urbaine a augmenté de 1,1% en 2011. La population rurale a augmenté de 0,9% et a atteint 2,0 millions de personnes. Près de la moitié de la population urbaine réside actuellement dans les cinq plus grandes agglomérations que sont Zurich, Bâle, Genève, Berne et Lausanne.
