## Description

Fondé en 1912, le Parti démocrate-chrétien (PDC) a existé jusqu’à la fin 2020. Il a fusionné au 1er janvier 2021 avec le Parti bourgeois-démocratique (PBD). Baptisée «Le Centre», la nouvelle formation issue de la fusion est située au centre de l’échiquier politique. Se définissant lui-même comme libéral et social, mais plongeant ses racines dans le camp catholique conservateur du côté du PDC, le nouveau parti vote en alternance avec les forces conservatrices et libérales au Parlement, jouant ainsi le rôle de celui qui fait «pencher la balance». C’est pourquoi il est souvent perçu comme un «faiseur de rois». Par ailleurs, du fait de son poids électoral, «Le Centre» est surreprésenté au Conseil des États, où son influence est conséquente.

Le PDC s’est présenté pour la dernière fois aux élections au Conseil national et au Conseil des États en 2019. Il avait alors obtenu 11,4% des suffrages à l’échelle nationale (soit une faible baisse de 0,2%), pour 25 mandats au Conseil national et 13 au Conseil des États. D’autre part, entre 1891 et 2020, le PDC a toujours compté un ou deux représentants au Conseil fédéral. Historiquement, il était le premier parti dans des cantons de tradition catholique comme le Valais, Lucerne, Appenzell Rhodes-Intérieures et Uri, mais a aussi joué un rôle important dans les cantons de Fribourg, de Soleure, du Tessin, d’Obwald et du Jura.

In the embed URL, `dm` sets what is shown: `e` the map with its title bar (default), `p` also the values of an object clicked on the map, `m` only the map with a button that opens it in the atlas. `ig=1` (default) lets the map react to scrolling and dragging only after a click into it, `ig=0` right away. The size can be changed in `style`.
