Ciò corrisponde a un aumento del 36% rispetto al 2000. Tra i 6.2 milioni di veicoli vi erano 4.7 milioni di automobili e 0.8 milioni di motoveicoli. ### Parco veicoli stradali Tra il 2000 e il 2020 il parco veicoli stradali a motore (esclusi i ciclomotori) è aumentato del 36%, raggiungendo i 6.2 milioni di unità. Circa i tre quarti di questi ultimi sono automobili, tra le quali da qualche tempo si riscontra una quota crescente di veicoli ibridi ed elettrici. Le automobili totalmente elettriche immatricolate nel 2020, circa 43'400, corrispondevano allo 0.9% del parco automobili complessivo. La quota più elevata (2.0%) è stata registrata nel Cantone di Zugo. Una forte crescita è stata osservata anche per quanto riguarda i motoveicoli e i veicoli leggeri per il trasporto di cose: dal 2000 il loro numero è aumentato rispettivamente del 56% e del 74%. Nel 2015 il 65% delle economie domestiche possedeva almeno una bicicletta, mentre il 7% disponeva di una bicicletta elettrica. ### Veicoli stradali – nuove immatricolazioni Nel 2020 il mercato automobilistico svizzero è stato severamente colpito dalla pandemia di coronavirus. Nell’arco di tutto il 2020 in Svizzera sono stati immatricolati 336'841 veicoli a motore, il che corrisponde alla cifra più bassa degli ultimi 24 anni e a un calo del 17.8% rispetto al 2019. Le nuove immatricolazioni di automobili sono addirittura diminuite del 23.7%. Nonostante questo crollo storico, nel 2020 il numero di automobili elettriche (+49.8%) e quello di automobili ibride ricaricabili (+225.7%) immatricolate sono nuovamente aumentati.
