# Quota di persone di confessione cattolica cristiana

## Description

Negli ultimi decenni, il tessuto religioso della Svizzera ha subito una profonda trasformazione: gli evangelici-riformati – ancora in netta maggioranza nel 1950 (56%) – sono passati in minoranza (2017: 23,8%). Dal 1970, i cattolici rappresentano la maggiore comunità religiosa (2017: 35,9%) – una conseguenza soprattutto dei movimenti migratori nella seconda metà del Ventesimo secolo. La quota delle altre religioni, sempre più diversificate, aumenta (1980: 3,2%; 2017: 7,5%). Hanno registrato una forte crescita soprattutto i musulmani: 2017 si professano fedeli all'Islam più di 380'000 persone, contro le 152'200 nel 1990.

Molto di più che in passato, l'appartenenza religiosa è il frutto di una decisione individuale. È quanto indica non da ultimo il crescente numero di persone che si liberano dall'appartenenza a una comunità religiosa «ereditata» e dichiarano di non appartenere a nessuna comunità religiosa (1970: 1,1%; 2017: 26%).

Resta l'impronta confessionale storica dei Cantoni – malgrado le migrazioni interne e le immigrazioni dall'estero. Sono cattolici nettamente più di tre quarti della popolazione nella Svizzera centrale e nei Cantoni Friburgo, Vallese, Ticino, Appenzello Interno e Giura; l'unico Cantone con una forte dominanza evangelica-riformata è Berna (50,2%). Tracce di questi modelli confessionali regionali si ritrovano in vari settori della vita, ad esempio nelle strutture dei partiti politici o nella demografia (ad esempio nel numero di figli per donna o nei divorzi).
