Alla fine del 2025 la popolazione residente permanente ammontava a 9'127'100 persone, con un tasso di crescita dello 0.8% rispetto all’anno precedente. L’incremento ha raggiunto il suo picco tra il 1961 e il 1963, con tassi di crescita annuali medi del 2.4%. Dal 2007, la crescita media è superiore all’1%. Nel 2014 si è registrata una crescita demografica dell’1.2%, il che rende la Svizzera uno dei Paesi più dinamici d’Europa in termini di crescita demografica.
