The proposal

The Electricity Market Law (EML) is designed as a framework for establishing the preconditions for a competitive electricity market. Its key aims are the free choice of electricity supplier, guaranteed security of supply, and clear conditions for opening up the market. This includes, for instance, indication of the origin and method of production of the electricity, a six-year adjustment period, after which there must be an unlimited nationwide entitlement to transmission of electricity or to transparent pricing. The trade unions launched a referendum against the EML.
