The big winner of the 2023 National Council election is the SVP. The People’s Party can achieve a voter share of 27.93%, with an increase of 2.34% compared to the 2019 election. With 9 additional mandates (increase to a total of 62 mandates), the SVP is confirmed as the party with the strongest voter base. On the losing side were the Greens and the GLP, who lost 3.42% and 0.25% of the vote, respectively, losing 5 and 6 mandates and leaving them with 23 and 10 mandates, respectively.
The SP wins two additional mandates (41 mandates in total) thanks to its 1.43% voter increase and confirms its position as the second strongest party in the National Council. The The FDP loses one mandate due to a decrease of 0.86% voter share and thus still has 28 mandates in the National Council: it remains the party with the third largest number of voters, but with one seat less in the National Council than the Centre (die Mitte). With a slight increase of 0.24%, the Centre (die Mitte) reaches a voter share of 14.06%, which corresponds to a total of 29 mandates.
A small increase in voter turnout can be observed: from 45.1% in the 2019 elections to 46.6 for 2023. On the other hand, the proportion of women in the National Council decreases slightly, from 42% in 2019 to 38.5% in 2023, which corresponds to 77 female politicians in the National Council.
