Popular Initiative "Against Mass Immigration" (2014)

Categories: State and Politics › Votes › Foreign policy

The proposal

The initiative calls for a change in the current system: the state should control all immigration. The number of residence permits for all foreigners would be limited by annual maximum numbers and quotas. Employers would have to give priority to Swiss nationals on the labour market. International treaties that contradict this would have to be renegotiated, including the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons.

Results

The initiative was accepted by the electorate and the cantons.

Voter turnout: 56.6%
Votes in favour: 50.3%
